Achieving this objective necessitates that both instructors and students uphold and exemplify the utmost standards of discipline and integrity, aiming to be a source of pride for their chosen profession, and their service to the community.
We are committed to delivering a high-quality educational program structured to enrich the knowledge, skills, and training of our officers who serve the Beaumont community.
Our Training Unit operates out of facilities located at our main headquarters, which includes a dedicated classroom space. Additionally, we maintain a state-of-the-art firearms training facility, complete with a climate-controlled live-fire shoot house and an outdoor firing range. These resources are integral to our commitment to continuous professional development and the maintenance of high standards within the Beaumont Police Department.
The Beaumont Police Department prides itself on providing its officers with an extensive and comprehensive training program. In the year 2022, our dedicated officers engaged in a staggering 716 distinct educational courses, amassing a total of 12,810 training hours. These courses spanned a variety of learning environments, including classroom settings, firearm ranges, and practical fieldwork. Upholding our commitment to continuous professional development and skill refinement, we emphasize that ongoing education and skill enhancement are perennial priorities for our force.
Real-World Simulations
MILO, a state-of-the-art, military-grade decision simulator, offers an unparalleled real-world experience without the need to be physically in the field. Boasting an extensive library of over 800 meticulously programmed scenarios, officers are mandated to undergo training on these scenarios a minimum of two times per year to practice split second decision making.
The outcome of each scenario is determined by your interactions with the program and the commands you issue, all under the watchful guidance of a training officer who closely monitors your responses and offers valuable feedback. Experience it yourself by going through the Citizen’s Police Academy!
Mental Health Resources
In response to 600+ mental health-related calls last year, the Beaumont Police Department introduced a groundbreaking Mental Health Officer position in 2022. Sergeant Cody Guedry now acts as a liaison with the Spindletop Center to proactively identify and assist individuals facing recurring crisis incidents. This innovative approach enhances community support, reducing potential issues.
We’ve prioritized mental health in law enforcement. Over 50 of our officers completed specialized training, becoming certified mental health police officers. This equips them to effectively address and aid community members with mental health challenges, aligning our department with evolving community policing needs.

LESS Training
LESS (Law Enforcement Street Survival) training provides our officers with valuable tools for managing various situations, including physical altercations and arrests, with an emphasis on minimizing the potential for injury to all parties involved. By incorporating LESS into our training regimen, we empower our officers with the means to handle challenging scenarios more effectively while upholding the principles of de-escalation and minimizing the use of force. This initiative underscores our commitment to the safety and welfare of both our officers and the community they serve.
