Criminal Investigations Division

The Criminal Investigations Division is responsible for the follow-up investigation of crimes occurring within the city limits of Beaumont. The investigators assigned to the division are ready to respond anytime to the scene of criminal activity to assist in the investigation and the needs of crime victims.

All Beaumont Police investigators start their law enforcement careers as uniformed patrol officers before being selected for assignment to the Criminal Investigations Division. The investigators interview witnesses and victims of crime. They work actively to identify, interview and arrest suspects, and locate, recover and return stolen property.

The goals of the division include the identification and arrest of guilty parties, recovery and return of property, and the submission of complete and properly prepared cases for prosecution.

Identification Unit

The Identification/Crime Scene Unit of the Beaumont Police Department is a unit of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID). It is staffed by 6 civilian crime scene technicians who are under the supervision of a sworn officer, all of which are specifically trained in this field. The Crime Scene Unit works in close relationship with CID Detectives to document and aid in the investigation of criminal offenses.
Beaumont's ID unit is also the regional location of an AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Information System) terminal.

Property Crimes

The Crimes Against Property Unit investigates crimes involving citizens' personal property, including burglary, theft, auto theft, financial fraud and criminal mischief. This unit is responsible for the largest number of reported cases investigated.

Auto Theft

The Southeast Texas Auto Theft Task force will concentrate its efforts in those areas believed to have the greatest impact on area auto thefts. The task force also provides training to area patrol officers in the detection and recovery of stolen vehicles.

Family Violence

The Beaumont Police Family Violence Task Force was formed in 1996. The Unit was tasked with investigating domestic violence reported crime. Unfortunately domestic violence has escalated to the point for the need of such a unit. This issue is not only regional but a nation wide issue. The City of Beaumont was one of the first Law Enforcement Agency to recognize the need for such a Unit within the Department.

Vice/Narcotics

The Vice and Narcotics Unit enforces not only narcotics violations, but such vice offenses as prostitution and gambling. The unit utilizes undercover buys of narcotics and surveillance of suspected offenders to develop criminal cases.

Special Crimes

This unit is a combination of youth services and sex crimes. Officers in this unit investigate all crimes committed against and by juveniles (ages 16 and under) as well as all sex crimes, adult and juvenile.
