The Beaumont Police Department’s Cops & Kids Program is designed around the idea of teaching children that law enforcement officers are friends and protectors.

Goals:

  • To be proactive in cultivating positive relationships to shape Beaumont’s future
  • Build trust between Beaumont’s youth and its Police Officers
  • Educate children about personal safety and crime prevention
  • Promote leadership, ethics and civic duty
  • Encourage youth to consider law enforcement as a profession
  • Build partnerships with other community organizations serving youth

Programs:

We do this by maintaining numerous touch points throughout the year.

  • Fun Days in the Park
  • Speaking engagements
  • Reading programs at various camps, schools, and organizations
  • Trunk or Treat Halloween event
“Far too many children are involved with police only when things go terribly wrong in the world around them…their parents are in trouble, their friends are in trouble, or they are in trouble. I’m so proud of our Cops & Kids programs because they give children a chance to see cops at work in a friendly and unthreatening environment.” – Chief Singletary

Fun Days in the Park

The Beaumont Police Department is committed to fostering strong community bonds.

One of the ways we achieve this is through our summer Park Days, organized at parks around the city. These Park Days offer an opportunity for the community and youth to come together, have fun, and build meaningful relationships with dedicated BPD officers.

Santa in Blue

Creating magical Christmas memories for over 30 years.

The Blue Santa program was started over 30 years ago by the kindness of a few officers who purchased toys from their own pockets to help the children in need. Since that time, the program has grown exponentially thanks to our awesome partners and organizations. Throughout the year, any officer can nominate families who they think would benefit from Santa in Blue. Leading up to Christmas, officers will meet with the chosen families and learn about what the children want or need. When Blue Santa does his big shop, each child is shopped for individually. Volunteers will then wrap every gift so they are ready and waiting for Blue Santa to delivery!

Trunk or Treat

The Beaumont Police Department is committed to community education and interaction.

During the Beaumont Police Department’s yearly Halloween gathering, over 3,500 people come and engage with various booths hosted by units such as K9, SWAT, Traffic, Dispatch, and others. This is a highly anticipated event, and it allows children to approach, receive candy, interact with officers, and gain insights into the responsibilities and duties associated with law enforcement.

Elementary School Reading Program

The Beaumont Police Department is committed to youth education.

Beaumont Police Officers often engage with kindergarten through 2nd-grade classrooms in Beaumont schools, fostering a supportive environment that champions education and literacy. Through interactive storytelling sessions, they ignite a passion for learning among young students, encouraging them to explore the wonders of literature and embrace the power of knowledge.

By actively participating in these educational initiatives, Beaumont’s finest not only serve as role models but also demonstrate their commitment to the community’s growth and development. Through their efforts, they instill valuable life skills and inspire a love for reading that will positively impact these children’s futures.
