Our K-9 Unit is composed of five highly-trained police dogs, complemented by a dedicated team of handlers that consists of one sergeant and four officers. Our elite canine team includes four Belgian Malinois and one Dutch Shepherd, all of which are proficiently trained in both narcotics detection and patrol duties.
The K-9 teams are on-duty seven days a week with teams operating on overlapping shifts to maximize our presence and ensuring round-the-clock coverage. They collaborate closely with patrol officers, responding to a wide range of service calls. One of their crucial roles is conducting building searches to locate hidden suspects, reducing risk to our officers and and community members.
When an officer suspects narcotics may be present, the K-9s are an invaluable resource for detecting odors and providing probable cause for vehicle searches. This proactive approach helps in removing drugs from the streets and contributing to a safer community.
Our K-9 Unit also plays a vital role in responding to SWAT callouts. They assist in clearing buildings during high-risk entries and offer perimeter security during search warrants. Our dedicated K-9 teams are an essential part of our law enforcement efforts, ensuring safety and security for Beaumont.
